My only comfort in life and in death is that I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, in life and in death, to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.
He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood on the cross, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.
He also preserves me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation.
Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit assures me of eternal life and makes me whole-heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him.
-Heidelberg Catechism: LD 1
I have been crucified with Christ:
nevertheless I live;
yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.
If it be possible,
as much as lieth in you,
live peaceably with all people.
I desire to depart
and be with Christ,
which is far better indeed.
I love the Lord,
the fount of life and grace;
he hears my voice,
my cry and supplication,
inclines his ear,
gives strength and consolation;
in life, in death,
my heart will seek his face.
-Genevan Psalter 116
